This idea looked at how to unlock the often unrecognised potential in young people who are at risk of commiting crime/ anti social behaviour. The idea of a dragon’s den format in which young people who have shown themselves to be talented in a self-taught or informally learned discipline are invited to access unique mentoring opportunities. We match the young people with the most open minded and life-experienced CEOs who are willing to work with them to unlock and develop latent talent for future good.

Lynchpins / Social Reporters

This idea was around how to rejuvinate democracy from the bottom up, and how to go about doing this in a more disruptive way than through the ‘usual channels’. We looked at possibilities of supporting existing ‘lynchpin’/local activists to engage online as social reporters. This would mean arming them with the skills to interview and record their locale in a meaningful way, and to make their issues visible to others using self-broadcasting web-based approach.

Commuters Connect

An idea around using up ‘dead time’ on commuter trains through having a social carriage included on the train. Facilitated by Channel4 using online networks as a convening badge of some description in order to enable those who want to be active in their communities to help others who they are connected to via the geography of the train line, and in doing so to use up some of the tedious time on the train for the public good. A reputation management system could add to the legitimacy of those involved in the ‘connection’.

This idea was around matching employers with new graduates in order to create more formalised work placement opportunities and recruitment pools. The premise was to enable young people to try something out for a while – to check out a number of different possible career paths in a more formalised way before embarking on the usaul rounds of graduate recruitment.

Involve hosts 4ip workshop

On Thursday 10th July, Involve hosted a workshop at 212 High Holborn to generate new ideas around possible inputs into the Channel 4 public service fund “4ip“.

 

Thanks go out to everybody who attended on the day, both for contributing some fantastic ideas, and for generously giving up their time to take part. Thanks also to Sean Blair for doing an excellent job of facilitating the session.
